       After revolutionizing the downhill race world by mating the seemingly incongruous concepts of bottomless long travel performance with extraordinary pedaling efficiency, the V-10 became the Gold Standard of the DH circuit. For 2008, this no-compromise race machine has undergone further transformation. Thanks to some very careful redesign of the aluminum frame sections and a carbon fiber upper link, the new frame weighs in almost two pounds lighter and offers lower standover than the old one. The suspension has been revised to sit higher in its travel for a livelier ride, resulting in a lighter, tighter package with 254mm of rear wheel travel and razor sharp handling designed to do one thing: cut the fastest, most direct line to the top step of the podium.

        A two-year absence can imply many things. A round-the-world sailing trip, half a college education somewhere far from home, going to jail for tax evasion - two years can change you, man...
In the case of the Bullit, it was like a two-year stint in charm school. The bike is still big and brawny, built for tall drops and hard landings - with 180mm of rear wheel travel, a heavy duty 6069 aluminum frame with a stout 20mm pivot axle, a choice of either 135mm q.r or 150mm thru axle dropouts, 203mm brake rotor clearance, an optional floating brake kit and a 1.5" steerer tube - but she's come back with some very refined manners and a curvy new set of tubes. Charm school? Sure, but one that teaches judo too.

Bio:
2006 was a year of both great reward and frustration for Steve Peat. He captured the UCI Downhill World Cup, by riding consistently and keeping his wits about him, for the third time, and once again comes into a new season as the reigning World Cup champion. However, the individual World DH Championship eluded him yet again - quite possibly the only title the tall man from Sheffield hasn't won in his long and illustrious career. As such, Peaty comes into 2007 with an intense focus on a place called Fort William, Scotland.

"I'm stoked about it being in Scotland," Peaty says of the 07 World Championship venue. "It'll be a huge event, it's my home crowd, and they're gonna be loud! It's been the top stop on the World Cup circuit for the last four years. It's a tough course, the top is rough and scary at race speed, and I definitely think it's a course that's worthy of a World Championship."

For Peat, who has been racing since 1992, life consists of family and bikes. He splits his time between the two, leaving behind his wife Adele and son Jake for as much as 5 months of the year to follow the races. "I live on an old farm, four or five miles outside of Sheffield. I  l o v e being at home, playing with Jake (my son). Outside of my family, mountain biking is pretty much my life," he states. "I still  l o v e all the travel, but it gets harder when I have to pack my bags and leave my wife and Jake at home."

At least this year, the commute from home to the top of the world won't be such a long one. And if not Fort William, there's always the future. When asked how much longer he plans to compete, Peaty smiles calmly and says: "As long as it takes. People ask that a lot. Right now, I enjoy racing, I enjoy riding, I'm having fun, and I don't see any end to that in the near future..."

Big, powerful, talented, and not given to long sentences, Nathan Rennie comprises the other half of the Syndicate Twin Towers Of Gravity. Come to think of it, given the size of Rennie and Peaty, they'd make a pretty good foundation to build a rugby team around...

Instead, it has been a life of bikes for Nathan. The Australian Institute of Sport tested him at over 1800 watts, which blows away all but the most serious track racers in terms of sheer output, and he was using flat pedals during the test. He recalls: "The AIS were heavily hinting that I do some track cycling for them, but I was having too much fun racing DH..."

Racing bikes since the age of 15, Rennie has grown into adulthood with downhilling paying the bills, bluntly stating: "I don't know what i'd be doing otherwise." Along the way has picked up a Junior World Championship (1999) and a senior overall World Cup title (2003). He finished out the 2006 season 4th overall in the World Cup and earned a Bronze medal at the World Championships in New Zealand.

That brings him into 2007 with some unfinished business to attend. "Last year I kinda mucked it up," he says, of the World Championships, before talking about the future. "One of the last things I haven't accomplished is a Senior World Championship. 2007 will be my 10th time at the Worlds, and I want to do well there."
